Position Summary:
We are seeking a full-time Senior Analyst to be based in Santa Cruz, CA lab. The senior analyst is responsible for comprehensive analysis and review of sample information, chemical, and microbial results prior to distribution to client and/or governing bodies. They will also be responsible for general upkeep and troubleshooting on a variety of analytical instrumentation required to complete testing. As a more experienced laboratory individual this position will occasionally call for root cause analysis and resolution for issues related to results and testing.
Seeking applicants who already reside in the Santa Cruz, CA region. Preference given to applicants who have previous cannabis/hemp testing lab experience.
Schedule
Full time and will include weekend days, working a 4/10 shift from either 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., or 10:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., exact schedule to be determined by the hiring manager.
Pay Rate:
The hourly pay rate range for this non-exempt position will be $25.00 to $33.50 based on experience, with the final determination to be made by the hiring manager.
Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years of age, as required by regulations for all employees.
- 4-year degree in a science related field.
- A minimum of 4 years previous experience in a real-world setting lab Analyst position.
- Lab work requires you to experience long periods of time spent sitting and/or standing, with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Education Requirements:
Due to Dept. of Cannabis Control (DCC) regulations, all candidates must have either:
- Earned a master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university; or
- (2) Completed 2 years of college or university education that included coursework in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university, plus at least 3 years of full-time practical experience.
Specific Duties/Responsibilities:
- Understand how to perform analysis review using instrumentation including but not limited to HPLC-DAD, GC-FID, LC-MS/MS, ICP-MS, and GC-MS/MS.
- Prepare analytical standards and solutions as prescribed to meet laboratory and regulatory needs for instrument calibration and verification.
- Maintain knowledge of state and federal regulation with respect to cannabis and hemp.
- Review and complication of data as required for both cannabis and hemp testing, ensuring correct and complete required information is present and all results meet state and federal regulation prior to release of results from the laboratory.
- Interact with the customer service department with respect to testing inquiries.
- Act as a technical lead/reference for other employees.
- Data analysis and composition into reports as required.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge and awareness of cannabis and the variety of cannabis products.
- Ability to analyze instances of nonconformance for probable root cause(s); ability to comprehensively and accurately document a sequence of events involving a testing process.
- Follows written and verbal instructions; works effectively in a collaborative environment and effectively communicates with all coworkers and managers.
- Ability to display critical thinking and problem-solving techniques.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Read, write, and speak English, use LIMS, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Drive applications.
